B.A. (Hons.) Music

AIRWE provides a unique platform for young girls to discover and harness their potential in the realm of spiritual music. Through rigorous training in both vocal and instrumental music, our institute nurtures their innate passion for the arts, nurturing and developing the talents of our future musicians.

One of our primary objectives at AIRWE is to resurrect the 500-year-old legacy of Gurmat Sangeet. Once highly esteemed during the time of the Sikh Gurus, this tradition had been perilously close to extinction in recent years. The late Honorable Sant Baba Iqbal Ji took it upon himself to revive this art form, personally collecting string instruments from various sources. With the invaluable guidance of renowned classical artist Pandit Brij Narayan Ji from Mumbai, as well as other experts from Srinagar and Hyderabad, he revitalized the playing techniques associated with these instruments.

Our institution offers courses under the Department of Music in three distinct streams: Gurmat Sangeet, Music Instrumental (featuring nine types of string instruments), and Tabla in percussion – all provided completely free of charge. These programs are performance-oriented, equipping students with the skills to excel in Gurmat Sangeet, North Indian Classical Ragas through instrumental proficiency, and solo performances accompanied by Tabla. Notably, all students are introduced to Tabla as a minor subject, enriching their understanding of Indian Taalas. By the end of their course, students gain proficiency in all 31 Raagas mentioned in Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, along with other specific musical compositions.

Our training approach seamlessly blends spiritual, religious, and modern education, delivered by a dedicated team of qualified instructors and guest experts. We also provide access to the latest musical instruments to enhance the learning experience. Our students receive training in an array of string instruments, including Sitar, Sarod, Saranda, Dilruba, Sarangi, Violin, Taar Shehnai, and Rabab.

In addition to the invaluable musical education, our students have the opportunity to earn the ‘Sangeet Prabhakar’ degree, equivalent to a 6-year music diploma and akin to a B.A. in Music. Those who pursue advanced studies can attain the ‘Sangeet Praveen’ degree, an 8-year music diploma program equivalent to an M.A. in Music.
